How IP intercom works
Akuvox door stations are IP intercoms. When someone rings, you see and talk to them on an indoor monitor or your phone, then open the door or gate.
For offices, an IP phone system (PBX) gives each desk an extension, call transfer between staff and a reception line.

New build or retrofit?
In a new build we plan a cable to the gate, each door station and each monitor. In an existing home we can often reuse existing intercom cables or use Wi-Fi indoor monitors.

Intercom and PBX: common questions
Can I answer the door when I'm away?
Yes. Calls from the door station reach the Akuvox app on your phone, and you can open the door or gate from there.
Does it work for apartment buildings?
Yes. A lobby station calls each flat's indoor monitor, and residents open the main door from their flat.
Can the intercom connect to Home Assistant?
Yes. The door camera and door release can appear in Home Assistant with your other systems.
